:confused:I've been reading through all the old posts and have guessed most of you are fairly young. Am I correct? I wonder how many of you are 'mouldie oldies' (61) like me? 😉

Mouldie Oldie; Phew, that was nearly eleven years ago (the61 not the mould)
I think there are quite a few of us here who developed diabetes as we became a little older.

Age for me is just a number. Ageing is what happens when you stop thinking 'young'.

How right your are John!! Isn't it nice that there is such an age range on here. We have spent the last 42 years with the military - always good for keeping you young!! When my hubby left last year I got quite a shock I'd never mixed with 'old' people before!!!!

New to diabeetes

Hi everyone

I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes 2 and a half weeks ago and have to control it by diet only.
I haven't been given much info so I joined Diabetes UK and found a support group in my area (derby) which meets every 2 months and the meeting was 2 days ago
I have seen a nurse at my GP's but she wasn't a diabetes nurse I don't think. Have been told I do not need to test my blood sugars myself but I am going to query this when i go back in december. I am finding it hard not eating sweet things as I love chocolate!! Howver I also like all vegetables, fruit, brown bread, rice and pasta. I am getting quite creative with veg and have even made home made butternut squash soup!!
My fasting tests showed 8.4 and 9.2 one week apart which is how I was diagnosed with type 2. I am trying to be good telling myself it will benefit me not to get any complications. I have a retinoperathy screening booked for January. I already see a chiropodist regularaly but should I see a podiatrist also? Would be interested to talk to anyone else who has Type 2 or Type 1 or anyone who has just been newly diagnosed. I am over 50 and my BM1 was highish so I guess that is why i have it

🙂🙂🙂
looking forward to some posts

Late 30's

I am 38 but feeling a lot older. I have been looking for ages to find a uk based group, unfortunately membership to the UK groups seem to cost money I just don't have. Its nice to be here with you all.

my HbA1c is currently 11.8

Old Age....lol

I must be one of the oldest on this site, I shall be 70 in February 🙂 I was diagnosed as Type 2 three years ago after being rushed into hospital in a coma, spent 14 days there linked up to 3 drips, saline, glocuse and insulin. My A1C last month was 6.5 that was up from 5.7 six months ago

Hi, You are just a "spring chicken". I am 68, you may be able to guess what my son and daughter-in-law call me from my message board name!

Regards

I'm 52 and was diagnosed 12 months ago. I wont let this beat me. 2 years ago I had cancer and got through that so this just a blip!

Age

I am 39 and was diagnosed with T2 at age 38. I think I had it for a few years before that as well!

It is not just the oldies.
