A 21-year-old man charged with trying to kill his former girlfriend in rural Prosser claims that because of his diabetes he cannot control himself when angry.

Christian Ramirez told a state psychologist that’s the defense he would give to the court for the Sept. 18 attack that left the victim with multiple stab wounds.

Trevor Travers, who evaluated Ramirez at the Benton County jail on Dec. 23, said the suspect doesn’t have a mental disease or defect and has the ability to understand the court proceedings and help his attorney.

Ramirez’s case in Benton County Superior Court had been on hold since October when lawyer James Kirkham Jr. asked that his client be examined.
