Are there many on this? Have just been to see nurse for a 6 month review, and my cholesterol won't budge from 5.4, despite taking 20mg simvastatin every day. The 'split' between good & bad amounts is excellent, very good, (her words), and she has changed the statin to 20mg of atorvastatin to try that.

Any info on this statin?

Thanks

There are subtle differences between statins. I started out on Simvastatin years ago, but developed muscle pains. Swapped to Atorvastatin and have been fine ever since. Whenever I change doctors they try to talk me into going back to Simvastatin (it's cheaper) but always back down when I explain the reason.

.....much more expensive than simvastatin....and less likely to cause muscle aches etc

Yup moved form simvistatin to atorvastatin after i was getting terrible achey legs, this statin is so much better for me gradually my cho is coming down to

Just a thought... do you take your statin in the morning or evening? My chemist told me years ago that there's a weird pharmacological reason why it's much more effective when taken in the evening.

I always find it helpful to rad the patient information leaflets that come with the packs of pills and keep at least one for future reference when I get my repat prescriptions.
