I so want to be able to allow myself a decent pudding or something :( how do you all manage to do it seemingly easy? I'd love to just have a chocolate pot or muller rice etc etc, just having a hard time again, feeling generally down after today, after a 3.8 had a jelly baby, then had a coffee with a Jacobs cheddar of 1.8g carbs and 2 squares 90% at 2.8g carbs just over 2 hours later I was sitting at 8.5 :( how did I overdo it that much huh x

Sugar free jelly. Or less carbohydrate in first course, so that you can have a normal pudding.

Sometimes I have a carb free dinner and then a pud and sometimes I have both, I just take more insulin.

I'm just worried I make mistakes I suppose x

Everybody makes mistakes. Nothing wrong with that!! You'll learn from it and in future you won't feel so anxious because you've already done it once 🙂

In theory you could eat an entire cake as long as you calculated your insulin correctly. If you're a little high after, you can correct but don't correct while you've still got quick acting insulin on board so wait a few hours after

I was amazed at how nice a few strawberries with two desert spoons of unsweetened full fat yoghurt was... I actually thought OMG this is so nice much better than the 'healthy' low fat but full of sugar yogurts and puddings. Also very pleased today that my jeans were so baggy I had to buy new ones and they were SIZE 12 although I wasn't overweight to start with I am happy that the small changes I have made since the end of February are working.. I weigh less have more energy and have cut out most of the sugar I was having in tea (from two sugars to a quarter of a teaspoon) cut out all the puddings and cakes and cut back on the carbs but this is the best bit.. I am not hungry!

I agree with MikeyB. As you are Type 1 diabetic you can cover it with insulin as long as you carb count. I know that it's easier said than done but try not to worry about it, life's too short to worry about treats if you're Type 1 as long as you have the appropriate amount of insulin.

If you make a mistake then correct for it.

Yeah my meters time blocks are set for 4-7 during the day so if I post meal test it automatically tells me to take a correction, obviously I don't as I know by the time I test again I'll have come back down but it can be a pain haha xx

I was told not to worry about what's still on board, but to make sure I inject for the carbs I've eaten.
And if I'm still over 8 (but under 10) 2hrs after eating then so be it - it'll drop as I've still got the active insulin going to cope with what I've eaten. If it's 4 hrs and I'm still high then think about a correction.
I'm very sensitive though (1:20 ratio) so it's a bit difficult to do a correction as 1 unit will drop my BG by about 5.
If I have a meal with say 40g of carbs I'll inject to suit and then if I have a dessert of 30g then I'll inject for that. I have found puddings (ice cream particularly) is good for me and it makes the chore of D just a little bit less c**p.
It sounds to me as if your meter is being a bit over zealous with corrections and it's causing a bit of a seesaw.

I find treating lows difficult too, I wouldn't expect to go to 8.5 after what you ate to treat a low, sometimes though I do as well. ((((hugs)))

I don't correct if I'm slightly high at post meal or anything, in fact I very rarely use correction, I'm quite sensitive too not as high a ratio as you but 0.5 units brings me down 3, that's why the DSN got me on to a half unit pen as a full unit was far too much xx

Its a learning experience if nothing else haha, all is fine, had my tea was sitting at 8.5 as range for be is 6-8 no correction and by bed time was 8.4 no disaster just so frustrating at times eh xx

I meant corrections, sorry if that wasn't clear. You always inject for the carbs you've eaten but correcting when you have active insulin on board can lead to serious hypos.

I normally do a correction +4 hours after my injection or whack a correction dose onto my bolus for my next meal(at night that obviously isn't possible so I'm very wary of night time corrections)

I'm not meaning to sound too nosey or anything but how many carbs do you take in per day, what ratios do you work on at the moment, sorry, I'm only like 3 months behind you but you seem like you feel much more comfortable with just carrying on, want to pass some of that courage over to me? lol xx

It varies really, yesterday was about 80, sometimes I only eat carbs twice in the day and have a carb free breakfast, lunch or dinner, sometimes all my meals have carbs, depending on my mood and how hungry I am lol! How many do you generally eat? X

My ratios are 1.5 units to 10g in the day, I'm quite insulin resistant.
Between midnight and 6am it's 1 unit to 10g, as I work nights and it appears I'm less insulin resistant at night so my meter has been adjusted to reflect this, otherwise I get hypos between 3&4 am x

Wow there you are telling me you sometimes have pudding and here's me now feeling guilty as I have usually about 96g a day lol, I'm 1:10 for breakfast and 1:12 for dinner and tea xx

I am in Bruges today and have eaten my way through the day with frittes and a waffle and Belgian chocolate. I enjoyed every minute of it and I will be high after for a couple of hours, but so be it. It is a personal choice. It is either worth the hassle guessing the carbs and going high for a while, or if isn't. If it isn't for you, then that is fine. If I were as concerned as you are about going high, then i probably would have enjoyed my day in Bruges looking at the fantastic architecture while eating a salad. Still would have been a great day.
