Quite a common side effect, some people are fine with a low dose but get problems when they up the dose. Taking mid meal can help. You could just go back to 2 for a bit longer to allow your stomach to settle and for your body to get used to it.
Diet is going to be just as if not more important than the mediation so have you also made adjustments to that.
Have a look at this link for some guidance on making some changes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

You are trying to get your Metformin dose up too quickly. Go back to one or two tablets whichever has no side effects and give yourself more time to accustom yourself to them.

The only really effective treatment for most people with T2D is diet, as LeadingLights says. A good starting point at Freshwell is this 3-page meal planner and food list

I found this article helpful too. What should we eat?

Sorry to hear about the nausea you’ve been experiencing @Metfallen :(

Metformin can give rise to some gastric upset, but the effects vary significantly from person to person. Some have no upset at all, some find any stomach upset feelings subside and disappear over a few days/weeks, but an unfortunate few have quite dramatic a reaction which persists and doesn’t ease up. There are alternative oral meds that can be tried in that case.

Hope your feelings of nausea settle down for you. 🙂
