Doctors should use newer medications rather than aspirin to treat a common heart problem, say new guidelines for the NHS in England and Wales.

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) says warfarin or a similar blood-thinning drug is better for patients with an irregular heartbeat, called atrial fibrillation.

Experts say most doctors are already doing this.

The advice will affect hundreds of thousands of patients.
