Heidi DeWinter says ArtPrize saved her life.
DeWinter was diagnosed with diabetes at age 8. The disorder is now taking its toll on her body. But she promises that come what may, her art will continue.
"I started in as a small child knowing what I was going to do with my life. Everything has always revolved around art," DeWinter, who is from Grand Rapids, said.
"Faces of the Deep Woods," showing at McKay's Downtown on Ottawa Avenue SW, is her first ArtPrize entry.
