I’ve been seeing a growing buzz and interest in an ‘online diabetes community’ #gbdoc project called ArT1st which is celebrating and sharing the creative talents of people living with type 1 diabetes, from musicians to makers, painters to photographers, writers to weavers, poets, performers and everyone in between. Initially the plan was to have an large event (which may still happen) but the project has shifted towards ‘being creative in a time of Covid’.

There is now a website here: https://www.art1st.life/

If you live with T1 diabetes and enjoy doing anything creative you are encouraged to share your passion on the art1st.life website.

I know we’ve a fair few wonderfully creative types here, and it would be great to add to the contributions from the Twitter ‘bubble’ 🙂

That looks interesting.
My latest piece is unfortunately locked in at the framers and inaccessible
I shall have to think of something else to contribute.
Thanks for flagging this up @everydayupsanddowns .

Thanks so much for sharing @everydayupsanddowns
If anyone has any questions about this fun ArT1st project, do tag me in as I'm helping with the music side of things. We are a group of people living with type 1 and a few healthcare professional working in diabetes care and we're all organising this project as volunteers. We love the arts and want to see and hear your creaT1vity! Crafts and fashion designs also welcome 🙂

If you've any photos of your work, old or new, that"s fine! Just send them in via the web site heading your email paintings of drawings (or whatever), wwe'd love to see your work!

The piece I have at the framers is one I did for an exhibition Wasted. It is woven using the tubing from my pump, and also uses the packaging from my sensors and cannula for labels. It shows my average glucose levels over a day and explanations ab It that impacts these levels.

I will see if I can include a photo (it is a bit of a long winded process from my iPad on this forum). They are not high quality and it is taken before it went to the framers. The piece will eventually be in the London office of DUK.

Does the work need to relate to Diabetes and/or the lockdown?
I have two other pieces I am finishing at present, and another that has gone to a friend in Italy who needed cheering up in a tiny flat.

That sounds stunning! Things don't have to relate to diabetes or the pandemic, we're doing this now as the live event had to be postponed.

At the event, when it eventually tales place, we'll be inviting people to display their art work and play their music etc (see categories sbelow), so for now, photos are wonderful! Just check out the web site (and the Galleries there to see others' work!) and use the ArT1st email listed there to send you photos in 😉
