Why are my morning levels still near 8-9 or just above? During the day I can see 6's or 7's now (still not 'ideal') but an improvement.

Before bed can also linger around the 10 mark.

I am on Byetta (1 week in) and 1500mg metformin (SR).

It frustrates me in the morning so much, i want to see those low numbers :confused:
 
Do you get your 8-9?s in the morning always when you have been 10 before bed? Or can you be 6 in the evening and 8-9 in the morning?

If you are only high in the evening at certain times, is there a pattern to it regarding how active you have been and what you have eaten?

I don't know as I haven't regularly tested before bed, partly because I am waiting for more test sticks (grrrr) so was using sparingly in the meantime.

Once I (hopefully) get them I will be able to check it and see a pattern, or not I guess....

I don't think I have ever seen a 6 before bed though, but that's probably also because I sometimes eat late (its just not always possible to eat any earlier for me) - would that make sense?

Haven't been snacking in the evening at all really, as I don't feel like it. Maybe an occasional glass of red wine with dinner than lasts a bit beyond dinner time.

How late do you eat? We tend to eat at around 5:30pm because we try to eat with our little boy and generally he wants to eat and still be able to play a bit before bath and bed at 7:30pm.

Often I do follow up with a little snack at 8pm once I've got him tucked up - usually either low/no carbs or some low GI ice-cream (aka Franks).

Red wine is usually ok for me. But then again I tend to have it at about 9pm after most of my dinner has gone down rather then with my dinner where it would delay absorption.

I don't get in the house until at least 6pm on work days, then have to get my little boys dinner made, my little girl often eats at the childminders. I need to get his made first, because he'll be in bed at about 7.30/8 too.

Only once I have got them sorted and into bath/bed do I think about getting my dinner - my partner works shifts and there is no other way to do it if he is working - if he is dayshift he isnt home until 7pm too, and if he is nightshift he is away out at 4.30pm. If he is there of course things are a little easier.

It's just not possible for me to ever eat my dinner at 5.30, never going to happen!
 
How old is your little boy? If he is eating regular meals then what about investing in a slow cooker that will do the cooking whilst you are at work and having your meal with your little boy?

He is 5. He is THE fussiest child ever, we have had huge food issues with him unfortunately - he wouldn't touch anything out a slow cooker. Believe me, we have tried so many times! :( He eats only a few certain meals, anything else causes huge stress and though we DO get him to eat other foods it's stressful for us all and we usually "tackle" it when both me and my OH are there to deal with it. Drs have said it'll be a slow road with him, so for now we go with what we know works.

Thank you for the suggestion though, it is a good idea and I do use my slow cooker a lot, but you have inspired me to definitely get it out and use this week, infact I will do that for tomorrow nights dinner I think.
 
Yeah it?s quite understandable not being able to eat early.

Fortunately my wife decided to give up work since the job she did have was never going to cover the cost of the nursery and she pretty much hated the working environment ? this of course will cause a few issues when she does want to go back to work when little one goes to school.

My work is only a 10 minute commute and our flexi hours allow me to get home by 4pm. I?d love a change of scene as well ? but it?s impossible to find something else this gives me the flexibility! And two pairs of hands in the kitchen make fast work of dinner (I?m the cook!).

The problem as you might guess is that if you eat your meal late, when you go to bed your metabolism slows down so rather then the glucose getting utilised because you are still being active it ends up just sitting there in your blood. You could always try doing a 30 minute home exercise session to try burn some carbs before bed ? but if you are anything like me; at that time of night you probably only want to rest and take the weight off your feet!

You could also try eating less carbs in you dinner ? perhaps a protein source and salad (possibly not the most appetizing idea).
