The latest report ?Dietary Recommendations for Energy? from the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) may seem like good news for some people with its findings showing the recommended daily energy (calories) requirements have increased.
For men the amount is now 2,605 calories instead of 2,550, and for women 2,079 instead of 1,940.
Before people start celebrating with an extra biscuit or packet of crisps without worrying about the health consequences, it must be remembered that as a nation we are already overweight and eating far more than these guidelines anyway. More action needs to be taken to help people understand the benefits of healthy eating and keeping to a healthy weight.
