Are there any apps available that would enable me to calculate the nutritional content of meals that I prepare, that show the following: Energy kJ/kcal, Fat total, Saturate fat, Carbohydrate, Sugars, Fibre, Protein, Salt?

as information varies by brand I imagine it may be quite tricky

my fitness pal is an app some use but I've noticed in the past some of the information they hold for things aren't correct

do you have a mobile? Samsung have a food tracker and if I remember correctly it does what your asking for
xx

Hi Kaylz.
Thanks for the info.
I'll have a look at my fitness pal, and it maybe useful.
I've got an iPhone, but I may be sucessful searching for 'food tracker'.

Carbs and Cals - available as a book and an app. I use it constantly when i'm cooking at home and to estimate carbs when i'm out.

My favorite so far has been myfitnesspal because if you are cooking yourself you can create your own recipes and it will work out the carbs, fats, protein, and calories. Sometimes it can be inaccurate if eating out, but I have found that it contains most food items and can be worked out in recipes you make. Hope that helps!

Yes - it is called NutraCheck.co.uk and it measures all 8, for literally thousands of foods. It allows you to create your own recipes from basic ingredients and even has a Barcode search facility. It keeps a running total per meal, per day and per week. So you can see at a glance what your meal is, and how you are doing for the day. It offers 7 different food type options, from balanced, low carb, 5:2, low fat, less sugar, high protein, to select your own. Since being diagnosed I find it absolutely vital to monitor my food. I got the first 6 months free, then it is £7.99 per month. There are members in the USA so I'm guessing it is worldwide. Primarily it is for weight loss, but some people use it for weight gain, or just simply healthy eating. It also measures exercise and calories burned on average. 😛

There was a cracking app called ‘Cook and Count Carbs’ which allowed you to create your own recipes (even using custom ingredients in your cupboard rather than ‘default’ values for staples).

Unfortunately it fell foul of Apple’s update cycle and is no longer available.
