The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has issued a statement responding to Professor Berwick's report earlier this week, with its own recommendations in the wake of the Francis report.
Professor Berwick, an international expert in patient safety, was tasked to carry out a review of the health service following the publication of the Francis Report, which examined the breakdown of care at Mid Staffordshire Trust Hospitals.
The report, entitled 'Improving the safety of patients in England' advises that the continual improvement of patient safety is paramount, and should "permeate every action and level in the NHS".
