Hello all
Just getting something off my chest 😛
Our hospital appointments system is quite old fashioned - basically, you get what you're given and then contact them if you can't make it. So when I handed in my re-booking form for my son's D clinic (back in May), I made sure to point out that he is going away to school in September, so could it please be before that. Along comes the appointment letter - 14th September ** sigh **. Turns out that the consultant is away for most of August, which of course he's entitled to be, especially as some of that is paternity leave 🙂 But no-one is is being drafted in to help. I have also asked my son's retinopathy check to be during his half term, but haven't heard yet ... I might open a book on the chances that the appointment will be just when we can't make it ... any punters?
Luckily my son is doing OK right now, so I'm going to ask whether he might just have the A1C done by a nurse and talk to his DSN about any issues.
Whole thing could do with being more patient centred, but I feel for the staff as they're always trying to make things work with minimum resources.
Well, rant over ... that feels a bit better 🙂 Catherine

My clinic appointment was suddenly moved forward by 3 months, I was not happy as I was needing my HbA1c and thyroid done, fortunately getting the tests done is the easy part and the GP helped out, its the one on one consultation that were all after.....🙂

Last week my GP surgery phoned and said you need to make an appointment to see the nurse, which I did. It took me ages to convince them I work 7am till 3.30pm so anything after 9am and before 4.30pm is no good for me. So I have an appointment for yesterd (18th July) for 5.30. AT 4.30 I am not even anywhere near home so I phoned home to get hubby to remake the appointment for Friday. I'll be home Friday. No nurse on Friday so I'll have to make another appointment.

It used to be dead easy if you worked full time to get a late appointment, now all they seem to offer is stuff between 10am and 2pm.😡

On that issue at least, my surgery and the hospital seem to be pretty good. The surgery offers appointments from eight in the morning and does two late nights a week (till seven) and two Saturday mornings a month. The hospital have been really good about making appointments for me after 3pm which gives me plenty of time to get there from work. The surgery also do phone appointments readily.
