first things first, take your meter readings to your appointment. as Deus says, they can only go off one reading, your A1C. If they can't see what's going on on a daily basis then they can advise.
depending on which PCT you fall under, they may not consider you for a pump until they are satisfied that all other attempts to control your daibetes have been exhausted. From the sounds of things, they have not seen your meter readings yet (?) so be prepared for the suggestion that they monitor these with you over the next few months to see if they can create control with existing measures before considering a pump.
Annoying, and personally I think the UK are a bit reticent concerning pumps (given Australia and US are mucg freer in administering these) - but first of all see what you can learn. Like Deus says, don't rely on them to manage your diabetes - you've got to step up and become responsible for it yourself. Unfortunately having diabetes - and wanting good control - means you have to become a very responsible person woh is willing to accept a lot of hard work, frustration and acceptance that things won't ever be perfect - just better - but there are lots of people on this site to help you through that.
