hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping safe at this time. I am a type 1 diabetic (insulin) and have been since 1984 (at the tender age of 14!)...I lost my job recently and have been applying for new ones. My question is now should I be applying for jobs being classed as 'vulnerable' because even if I am successful with a job, would I be able to start with this virus going around? I am 50 in April by the way ...just curious. If anyone can offer advice that would be really appreciated. Stay safe x

Hello @johnnyd49 ,

Thank you so much for joining the online community forum. I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your job and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for you, especially with the coronavirus.

In terms of being successful for a job it and being classed as vulnerable would be illegal. That would be considered discrimination and it goes against the Equality Act 2010.

People are still expected to look for work aren't they? Which is ridiculous imho, when they don't even have to sign on for work. On the other hand some of my family were sent a whole list of places that need temporary workers due to the virus, Aldi Morrisons etc. They must need shelf-fillers!!

I am so sorry you have lost your job. I don't think you should be looking, it's too dangerous imho.

I saw a post on Facebook and the one I saw was for allsortsof jobs and some were supposed to be permanent. I also notice that Ocado were the ones paying the poorest payers.

It is a terrible time to be looking for a job and I hope you get sorted soon, can I ask what you do?

Sorry to hear you’ve lost your job @johnnyd49

It is a really difficult time to look for work right now, but as a T1 the official advice is to be stringent about ‘social distancing’, rather than full isolation

So while it might be a bit more challenging to look for work and a,so be socially distant during a recruitment process, there could well be ways to make it work. Any organimation recruiting at the moment should be taking steps to accommodate social distancing during the recruitment process.
