I see ACV mentioned quite often taken in water. Can i ask what benefit this has?

I use it and my belief is that it promotes good gut health.

I don’t put much faith in any of those things, to be honest.

There are so many ‘just take a spoonful of this...’ stories on the internet, and many of them seem to cast a very wide net in terms of things they are supposed to miraculously help - anything from weight, to diabetes, to cancer.

My feeling is that if the effects were anything like as positive as claimed then pharmaceutical companies would have analysed and extracted whatever active ingredient was responsible, concentrated it and released it as a medication.

It’s not that these things can’t have an effect, and that people may not be able to observe positive effects - even completely inert placebos can give rise to measurable benefits in clinical trials through the power of the mind!

If you try it and it works for you then great! But I’m not sure you can rely on it too much 🙂

It is not that many years ago it was being touted for Arthritis!

Can't say that I can identify any beneficial effects, but I do use it quite a lot as it tends to enhance flavours in some foods.
e.g. a teaspoonful added to a salad dressing or tonight I added some to a prawn curry to give it a bit of sharpness.

So a useful store cupboard item, but i can't identify any more benefits in it than in the lettuce that I pour it over!

I have never tried and I rarely have salads let alone alone dressing.

Thanks everyone for you input...so sadly no miraculous help at all it would seem

There is no silver bullet when it comes to diabetes or probably any other condition, just dietary changes and exercise and perhaps medication but ACV does get a mention in a thread recently posted about foods which are considered beneficial to diabetes management....

My sister who passed away from Cancer in June 2018 had her gall bladder removed years ago & always suffered from recurring digestive problems! She heard about the vinegar thing online & used to force herself to take a tablespoon of neat distilled vinegar after her meals to help her digestion the 2/3 years before she got Cancer! Those last few years were particularly hard for her! In hindsight now, she was already getting ill as the Cancer was advanced, spreading through her body, & too late to operate by the time she eventually went to see her GP about her health issues! The Cancer was discovered September 2017. Ironically just getting home after her visit to me in NI, from her home in Manchester, that Easter through the Summer of 2017. I told her you need to see your doctor as she was telling me about all her troubles & why she had been taking vinegar! The vinegar didn’t do a thing & it wasn’t easy to get it down: I saw her forcing it down after her meals; the smell alone made ME gag never mind how it felt to her!

So sorry to hear your sister had such a bad experience and made her life more difficult/unpleasant for no good reason or benefit, especially when she had limited time left. That is really sad.:(
Not sure who told her to drink it neat or after meals as it is recommended in a glass of water before meals. I use it partly as a flavouring for the water. If I run out of ACV I use balsamic but I do think that ACV is better for you. Now that I have got my sweet tooth under control and my taste buds are desensitised to sugar I enjoy sourness (and bitterness) far more but would not dream of drinking it neat, I just have a dash in a half pint glass. It also makes my morning coffee with cream taste even more delicious.
