Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that I had 6 months of being severely sight impaired due to retinopathy in 2007. It had been treated with lasers up until that point, but the laser couldn't get through the blood after my significant bleeds. I have had around 25000 burns in total, over both eyes.

I then had a vitrectomy on one eye in November 2007 - where they remove the fluid and the cell structure that kind of holds dead blood in place inside your eye - and replace it with saline/a gas bubble. Recovery took two or three months, but I ended up with 20/20 vision in that eye again although with a reduced field of vision.

I had a vitrectomy on my other eye in March last year, and now (wearing glasses) have 20/20 vision. I still hold a driving license, too, although it was suspended for a time while my vision was affected.
Hi Kate,

I wonder if you could possibly help or maybe point me in the right direction as I am completely lost right now.

My husband has just had licence revoked due to changes in law after as seeing diabetics who have had laser treatment in the past losing their licences as they have 'moved the goalposts' they have broadened the scope for the visual field test meaning it is almost impossible to pass it 'old standard was 120 degrees but now there must be a field of at least 50 degrees on each side' (which means nothing to me as I am not a specialist) but my husbands eyes have not changed at all in ten years he has NEVER even bumped a wing mirror in 25 years driving and they have just wiped his life away in a one sentence. He will make himself ill as this has completely knocked him for six but they dont care, i need to find someone who can help us. If you know of anyway/anyone on this forum I would be grateful. x

Hi PinkyFlynn

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry but I don't know the ins and outs of the new criteria in detail. DUK have a section dealing with Driving which briefly mentions appeals: http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to...abetes/Driving/If-your-licence-is-taken-away/ (though it has not bee updated very recently it seems)

Perhaps you could get some advice from the Careline? 0845 120 2960, office hours Monday -Friday
