Anyone know the latest with the whole Apidra shortage following the fire? I have been told supplies should be back to normal in December. Is that what you've head?

Also a bit of a horror story. I went to the Go Clinic last Thursday at my Hospital because I need a CGM meter to check for Dawn Phenominon. While there I saw one of the DSNs who gave me two Clikstar blue one for Apidra and a white one for Lantus. Told I should be fine to get cartridges for them but they needed to be prescribed by me GP so rocked up at Me GPs just before they closed to be told the Apidra cartridges were involved in the shortage (not what DSN had told me). But appartently they still had viles of apidra so I would need to go back to using a needles to inject apidra. They went on to want to make me book an appointment to learn how to draw insulin from a bottle. I did protest considering I have drawn human mxitard like that from 1989 to about 2001/2 ish but as I had 3 solostar pens left they left it at that.

Anyway called Russells Hall and a nice DSN agreed to prescribe me some apidra from their stock as they still have cartridges etc. Hopefully if they are back on line mid Dec this should last.

Can't help with the news but I remember reading that the vials were all that would be available, so backs up what you've been told.

They are amazing at times what they think you've been doing all these years without their guidance ! 🙄

It is very hard not to get shirty with some of them. From consultants downward, there are just some who won't accept that the patient knows more than they do. Grrrrr. 😡

Hi Marc, thats pretty much what I have been told. It is worth phoning around as some areas have more stock than others. My area have a few cartidges left as these are less commonly used. Vials are not affected so I might have to go on to syringes and vials if my solostar supply doesn't last

I'm lead to believe solostar are being phased in the new year. Also is it just me or can anyone else believe that this was allowed to happen and that the supply was all kept together for a drug that is so crucial to life for a lot of us.

Exactly what I thought Marc. I was angry that this wasn't considered, they must have thought about what would happen if there was a fire or an accident. I suppose there is always Novo Rapid or Humulog but I tried Novorapid before and didn't get on with it. Apidra really is the only one that is suitable for me and in a lot of other people too.

I have been using solostar for a year now, it is the white optiset pens that they are phasing out now anyway.

I wanna scream I've got home from work and they have given me Opticlik cartridges for my Clikstar pen 😡

Wouldn't mind but the one who wrote the prescription for the cartridges only gave me the pen on Thursday.
