Can Tresiba be given in half units or is it only 1 and 2 units?

As I've replied to you in the waking thread you would need a reusable pen which is the NovoPan Echo which is capable of half units and the Tresiba cartridges

So no half units of Tresiba for me - I've phoned my DSN to ask about it and she said to be honest with a background insulin half a unit wouldn’t make all that much difference like it would with a bolus insulin.

Sorry Gill, I know your DSN usually gives good advice but I totally disagree with her on this

As a user myself being able to adjust my Tresiba by a half unit has been a godsend on numerous occasions and has made a huge difference to whether I'm hypo or not so I'd challenge her reason personally

Yes you would need the refillable Echo pens. I figured this would be standard but adult diabetic services seem to differ so much from paediatrics.

In theory half a unit shouldn’t make a huge difference in your basal but with Tresiba everyone’s different. I would say maybe from your posts that you’re attempting to have too tight control over your numbers and for the time being allowing your tresiba to be a little lower than optimum so that you avoid more hypos but run a little higher may benefit you more than worrying about half units. Because it’s possible to have very tight control of diabetes (although never perfect because weaker not machines and having all the right input doesn’t always mean the perfect outcome) sometimes that can be what we chase but it can cause more stress than just going with the flow a bit. It may be that tresiba isn’t the best basal for you long term (it’s being withdrawn from our team because it’s so hard to get right) but for now you can get a reasonable result by reducing your dose enough to minimise the hypos and then give it a few weeks to see what else happens.

Ha! Try telling that to a pump user who is adjusting by 0.025u or 0.05u per hour for an hour or two in their basal profile here and there!

That was what I was thinking, I really don't get the DSN's reason as as Tresiba user myself my half unit pen has been a godsend many times! xx
