Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, my name is Tom and I am 57 years old, I was diagnosed in February 2020 with type 1 diabetes. Since then I have been very up and down and controlling my sugars I am finding extremely tough. Being diagnosed just before lockdown I feel like I have missed out on all the good support that you may usually get and feel I’ve been thrown in the deep end to understand it all.

I find the best support is all online however the truth is I can barely use my iPhone I am not very tech savvy and this is actually my 26 year old daughter typing.

what I would LOVE is someone I can connect with (virtually of course) to get to know and for them to get to know my habits and support/mentor me throughout this learning process. Does that exist?! Can I pay privately for someone like this?! A diabetes counsellor of some sort

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you should find a wealth of experienced people on this site who can answer any questions you may have.

Actually you should have access to a Diabetes Nurse through your local hospital who is there to help you in this way. Have you not been assigned one?

I have been assigned one. But I’ve had a handful of virtual chats which have not been helpful at all. Feeling a little lost with it all.

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum.
Post away and ask as many questions as you want/need. We are all one big happy family and we def do not charge for the support. 🙂
