Hello Ryan, quite a few have had the shielding letter, it's your passport to a earlier vaccination 🙂

Not yet ..... waiting for the post each day to see if one appears ! How are you feeling about it?

I dont understand why its taken them so long... we get flu jab because when we have a the flu its bad for us type 1s. Covid is a stonger flu! How did they only just realise?

Hello @T1Ryan 🙂

Mum got her snailmail letter this morning. She's already had the jab. She's only pre-diabetic. Bit late in the day I feel, scaremongering maybe.

It’s crazy isn’t it! Fingers crossed they let you out! I was hoping all
The letters were through and I hadn’t been identified!

Same way they refused to understand that in addition to the elderly, Tory induced poverty stricken folk and BAME folk were dying like flies.

There was one announced at the begining of the week, but it did mention particular groups when announced.

I got an email on Thursday telling me I was now on the shielding list. This coincided with suddenly being offered the vaccine, both of which surprised me since despite being T1 I am young and in good health so didn't think I was particularly high risk, especially since I wasn't considered to be before this point. Makes me wonder what has suddenly changed, since I was under the impression infection rates were on the decline.

The only Type 1s *in my area* to have been told to shield are perfectly healthy under 25s. The over 50s have been ignored, despite over 50 being part of the criteria JDRF and DUK specified to the government. They were also offered the vaccine before us, but only by a few days.
So I still can't get my medication delivered and have to hope that Tesco continue to give me a shopping slot and not bump me for younger shielders.

Completely untrue I’m 52 and have been asked to shield this week. Type 1’s from a wide range of ages have received this letter.

I apologise. I left out the fact that I mean my local area. I have checked the page on this website that explains it all and it specifically states OVER 50 yet teenagers with very good HbA1C are being asked to shield.
Can I ask? You appear to have a better HbA1c than me (I'm 7.2%) do you also have complications?

Thanks for correcting your post, but I still fail to see how you can have such complete knowledge about every T1 in your local area. The updated shielding list is based on a combination of factors, and this has been done at national level - not locally. If you think you should be on the shielding list or have other concerns then please speak to your GP.
We have a local chat group and the teenagers were all notified to shield. They were mystified as they had good HbA1C and normal BMI. The older people haven't been notified. I have an appointment with my GP for some irregularities in my blood tests this week. I would like to find out whether I can reasonably ask to be added to the shielding list, which is why I asked AJLang if she has complications. I would like to know where I stand. I don't think the GP have me down as a risk, as I was never called for a flu jab - I had to source it from a pharmacy. I got the covid vaccine because I made the nurse double check the system at my blood test.

Had my letter today, type 2!

I got a letter today which I was not expecting and has left me confused and frustrated. From what I am reading is it because I am over 50 (52) and type 1? I am newly diagnosed but my diabetes is very well diagnosed and my HbA1c is now 6.0

Yes I have gastroparesis. My friend in her 40’s has been asked to shield but she doesn’t have any diabetes complications. To make the decisions they are taking a wide range of factors into account.
