Sorry all seems to be the only time I come here lately is to ask questions 😱 I was just wondering if anyone has the same problem as me at the moment or has in the past.

Top and bottom of it is I have been noticing that at very irregular moments during the day that my heart skips beats (several at a time) I feel short of breath and generally unwell, there is no pain at all, so know its unlikely to be a heart attack 😱 and its not just when I've been active either! I know there could be lots of reasons why this can happen including anxiety, but have wondered if it could also be a result of the cocktail of meds I'm on, including Venlafaxine (anti-depressant) and Ramipril (blood pressure) plus diabetic meds obviously!!

anyway I have decided to go to see my GP and have an appointment booked for tomorrow at 2.30 so will let you all know how things go!

One lvly thing to report though, I became a Great Aunt for the third time yesterday, we now have another little girlie in the family who I can't wait to meet, but poor mum had to have an emergency cesaeran after 40 hrs of labour 😱

thanks

take care,

Shirl

Hi Shirl

No direct experience I'm afraid, but these type of tablets can do all sorts of weird and wonderful things to our bodies. I've had twitches & tremors from tablets before.

Does it say anything in the patient info sheet?

You're doing the right thing. If not sure about any meds or things going on with your body then the Drs. should always be the first port of call.

Hope you get it sorted tomorrow.

Take Care & Congrats on Great Aunthood

Sarah 🙂

yes yes yes me me me !!!

and i thought it was just me!!

for no reason i can get palpatations..and feel breathless and crappy,

i did mention these to my GP on dx, but i was also anemic too so being dx diabetes and aneamic, was the reason!!,

well i still get them...maybe not as much but still do, let me know what the GP says plz?
how old are you if you dont mind me asking?

Hi there, regarding the venlafaxine you ought to be having 6 monthly ECGs with this (and Us+Es and LFTs - liver and kidney bloods), worth a mention to your GP. Not suggesting this is the cause as could be due to any stimulants (too much caffeine ?) or stresses. 🙂

Thanks for the reply,

Never been asked to have an ECG and have been on the Venlafaxine for 2 years if not three now! Have 6 monthly bloods as am on Insulin. I don't drink a great deal of coffee or anythin that contains a lot of caffeine?
Will let u know what doc says,

I hope the doctor can put your mind at ease Shirl 🙂 I remember experiencing something similar on a few occasions after returning to work after breaking my leg. I would just be walking somewhere and all of a sudden it was like my heart had stopped and my blood pressure hit the floor. I had to stop and lower my head and it seemed to pass in a few moments. I never got round to going to the doctor's with it and it only lasted a few days.

Thanks Sarah,

Yeah it does suggest palpitations may be a side effect from the Venlafaxine think thats what pushed me to go to doc just to get myself checked,

Thanks Northerner, I hope they can do somethin I am a little wary because I lost both of my parents to heart attacks :( This has been happening for quite a while now but just lately has got worse, can get it even sitting down, perhaps I'm just a hypochondriac (?) lol,

Ask for an ECG definitely and also for a Consultatnt's appointment and a 24 hour ambulatory tape. Any arrhythmia should be properly investigated especially as you are a Type 2 diabetic, with heart disease the commonest complication.

Oooo I hope its not our age 😱 coz I don't feel 55!!!

Update

Thank you all for the replies,

actually saw locum today (he used to be one of partners but hs semi retired) and he was lovley and said straight away after I explained symptoms that it could well be caused by the Venlafaxine! He had a listen to my heart and said he actually heard an 'extra' beat 😱 Upshot is that I have to go to the hospital tomorrow for an ECG and if that proves inconclusive then he will arrange for a 24hr monitoring just to make sure as soon as he can.

As I said doc was absolutely lvly and at least I felt listened to and he had time for me, a proper 'old fashioned' doctor? Will keep you informed of events, please keep fingers crossed that it is just the tablets.

Anyway thank you all,

take care,

Shirl xx

Thanks for the update shirl, good to hear that the doctor is on the ball and you will (hopefully) soon get to the bottom of it all 🙂 Fingers crossed for you!

Glad to hear the doc has got you sorted with an ECG at last! Let us know how you get on. 🙂

glad your being seen to Shirl....i had a ECG at the surgery when i mentioned my symptoms last time...and it was ok. keep us informed xx

Hi,

went for ECG yesterday was given result to take back to GP same day, made an appointment for 6th Sept. and was told if they needed to get me in sooner they'd ring!
Only thing that puzzled me was that they asked me to hold my breath whilst they did part of test, were other people asked to do this?

Just gonna keep my fingers crossed now, hope all are ok,

Shirl

Good to hear that things are progressing Shirl. I've had lots of ECGs but I don't recall being asked to hold my breath. I expect it depends on what they are looking for. Keeping fingers crossed for you 🙂
