Anyone else ever had a change in blood sugars for no major reason?

It's been a very long time since I was last on here... Hello everyone again!

My readings are suddenly far higher than usual. I am normally very predictable and controlled but, recently, have had readings shoot up massively for no tangible reason (normally I can work out any peaks very easily.)

Is it possible for me simply to just now need more insulin per gram of carbohydrate?

(Its not stress, illness, pump, insulin, sites, weather etc.)

Has it been over a few weeks. I would guess the weather  Being hot etc

Yes, I guess so. But generally warm / hot weather has made it go down rather than up, if anything. That's why I am confused! No major deal as can alter pump settings etc but still annoying!

Err, she asked as delicately as possible, could it possibly be hormonal at all ?

Failing which, it's probably just diabetes doing it's own thing. Just when you've got used to it doing one thing, it does another. hey ho, another day in the life of a diabetic !

Diabetics are not suppose to go in saunas because it makes bg go upside down. I love the heat 🙂

Ha! No, its certainly not 'hormonal'!!

I use saunas, never had any adverse affect either way. I like the heat too, although rather less now than I used to

Good luck being a detective !! & keep us upto date 🙂 As T W said being T1 is sometimes a mystery 😱

So, it might be just 'one of those things' then? Ah, ok!

Annoying it may rise my October HBa1c though!

Grumble grumble...

Has your body shape changed at all? If so worth considering looking at a different cannula. So if using a 90 degree cannula try a 30 or something similar.

Sue, I wish it had!! In a 'thin' way, of course!

Even if you gained weight this could cause a problem in 2 ways. More insulin needed and or a change in cannula type.

Nope, I am pretty much the same size / weight as pre baby really so unlikely to be that. Have tweaked the carb ratios on my pump to 2 units rather than 1.5 and that seems to have done the trick (quite a big jump though so maybe I will have to suddenly do the opposite again in a few weeks time!)

Not got this maybe dodgy batch of Novorapid have you?

Even though most of us have been through an unexplained change, there is "normally" an explanation, and I use the word normally quite loosely.

you say you've thought of the normal explanations but maybe you need to think of them in more depth?

stress- makes Bg levels go up and sometimes you can be more stressed than normal without realising.
illness- infections in particular make it go up. Sometimes having higher BG levels is the first sign of an oncoming infection- is there anything else that might be up?
pump- I have very little knowledge of this I'm afraid.
insulin- bad batch? kept in the heat for too long? can't get hotter than 30 degrees or colder the 4 (from memory) so with this hot weather could your insulin have warmed up too much?
sites- are you more bruised or lumpy than normal? keep rotating like the Dr orders 🙂
Hot weather- will obviously make your sugars rise
Hormones- this has a massive effect for a man or woman. time of the month can do it.
Diet- eating more carbs than normal?

not sure I can think of anything else at the minute but I'm sure someone else will 🙂
Have you been diabetic for long? I know in my first few years I had to suddenly increased my insulin levels just because my body was giving up :(

Hopefully you can find a solution soon and at least you sound like you're treating it in the right way🙂 - Good luck.

Thanks for your replies.
Am on Humalog so it won't be that.
I've been diabetic for 34 years so pretty used to the how's and what's. Still not sure of a 'cause' but have upped levels and its a lot better, so just keeping an extra close eye on things for a bit.
