Have done DAFNE and I claim to be carb and GI aware. Totally take on-board the reducing insulin in advance of exertion but this is difficult to judge. There is no measure of the extent of exertion anymore than guesstimating the appropriate tbr and then of course there's being nuts and having two heads.......🙄 thanks again ladies.
It's better to over estimate the exercise thus a larger reduction in basal then correct at next meal this will save the hypo 🙂

I am so jealous you only need to wait 15 mins! It is a pain having to wait over an hour!
Really pleased it is working for you though and fingers crossed for a successful repeat result. Just a shame you didn't find the forum sooner.

Barbara - do you realise how much easier it would become for you with a pump? You whack your basal up from 2 hours before you're going to eat, cos the insulin doesn't start having an effect until mealtime but because you're having a head start as it were, you then bolus less - or you can drip your bolus in over a few hours or just an hour, depends what it is - like tonight it's pizza so I'll extend the bolus with 40% of it before the meal and the rest dripped in over 2-3 hours.

What you now think you need whether bolus or basal, will actually only become apparent after you get a pump, so the first week goes by in a haze based on the guesses made by the DSN or pump rep when you got it - plus fire fighting whenever you need to - and then the real fine adjustment starts!

Thanks for that input on pumps Jenny. I am apprehensive about the idea of them and whilst my consultant mentioned the possibility of one, he sanctioned the Libre at my last appt. in Feb but it is looking like it may be some considerable time before that happens officially so decided to self fund until then and my starter kit has just arrived. I will see how I get on with this bit of kit before I tackle anything more complex..... I am a technophobe, so I need to take these things one step at a time. Perhaps having the Libre will convince me of the benefit of trying something else new.

Hi Barbara

I am definitely no tech wizard. I managed to sort the Libre and it has certainly helped me to head off lows and highs.

The pump which I started nearly 8 years ago was the big game changer for me. I was so frustrated with the limitations of MDI and just could not get things any better. The pump as @trophywench says is so much more flexible. It takes a bit of time to get things to match what you need but it is well worth it. There are so many more options for both basal and Bolus delivery, and you don’t need to be a whiz kid to make good use of it.
Pump + Libre = reduction in HbA1c and more flexibility in life.
There is absolutely no way I would return to MDI and I had to fight to get a pump. If they are offering you that option it is well worth considering. However I know it is not one system suits all.

Great news @robert Phillips - Hope you can manage to repeat that and it becomes a useful technique for you going forward 🙂
