The past 3 weeks ive been suffering from constant thirst, i put it town to the weather but its not do hot now and im still the same - just so thirsty, im getting up four times a night to use the loo and drink another pint of water... i know these are classic diabetes symptoms but even when i was diagnosed i didnt have any symptoms so why now, this week alone ive lost 5lb, im not complaining but its alot, i have lost my appitite abit.. but ive put that down to being full grom drinking..type 2 on dapagliflozin these symptoms are side effects but ive been on these two years

Are you testing? You shouldn't be thirsty or losing that much weight if you're on meds. Get to the Docs.

No not testing docs previously told me no need, as they class it as well controlled

Hi @Becky1984, these are worrying symptoms , and if you're not testing you have no idea what's happening to your blood sugars, they could be going way up or down, you need to find a meter very soon and get an appointment with GP soon...
Ps..What is full grom drinking...?

Hi @Becky1984

The symptoms you're describing are from high blood sugar rather than any side effects of dapagliflozin. Thirst, toilet and weight loss are classic symptoms Get a gp appointment asap and please don't leave things be with these symptoms. .

It could be your BG are high or your Dapaglifpozin dose need adjusting, it makes your kidneys pee out more glucose, so you could be losing too much fluid . I think you need to see your GP/nurse ASAP.
I too suggest you get yourself a meter and start testing,
‘‘This is one of the cheapest meters we know of to self fund

The sudden weight loss troubles me as much as the thirst and constant drinking. You don’t want to mess around. Go the surgery tomorrow and ask if you can see a nurse urgently to test your BG. If they won’t, go to A&E.

Hi @Becky1984 - hope you have managed to get an appointment with your GP today? I agree that these are concerning symptoms and classic of high BG levels.

If you are struggling to get a quick appointment, some pharmacies offer a spot BG finger prick testing. You could get a very quick test - if it is high, then you should go to a walk-in or A&E immediately.
Hopefully you have managed to see someone today. Let us know how you get on.

Hi @Becky1984, did you manage to get your bloods checked and get a doctors appointment? Do let us know how you got on?

Hi all rung gp today, wont see me until thrursday, i am concerned about weight loss, i have major medical/hospital anxiety and would rather not go to a&e - its being made worse buy the fact i have a pain in my lower abdomen on right side - my uncle died of liver cancer shortly after being diagnosed with type 2 - doing my own head in - saying all this i dont feel unwell, im thirsty and a griping pain but not ill ill.

Is there an out-of-hours service in your area?

Try 111 they can give you advice as to the best course of action.

Hi all sorry for delay in replying, went to docs and he did a spot test i hadnt eaten at this point as early morning it was 16 (!!) not sure what measurement thats in... he said that was high but not overly concerning, he made me go back today for hb1a today so will no more next week.

He did say my results over the years have never been out of range and may just be one of those things i may have had a viral infection or something thats caused it to rise... i must admit i dont have much faith in my gp as last year he prescribed me the dapagliflozin that has always worked well for me but deceided to add and injection to aid weight loss ( i cant remeber namd. It was a weekly one but with a few days i ended up in hospital with Bg of 2 ... so we dont have a great track record...

Any GP that thinks a waking BG of 16 in a Type 2 is not overly concerning, with the symptoms you have, is an idiot. If he didn’t give you a BG testing kit, he is an idiot.

Is there a diabetes nurse in the practice you could speak to?

No its a small village practise... only a gew Gps and a nurse ( not a diabetic one ) When i said about how much weight id lost he said good you need to lose weight... which isnt untrue..

He sounds like a complete mutton-head. Is there another practice you could get to?

Have you spoken to your hospital team? The advice you’ve been given by your GP is worrying, but not surprising. There is an alarming lack of knowledge about diabetes in primary care.

Most Type 2 do not have a hospital team.

I suggest you see another Gp at the practice. I missed the weight loss in your first post on this thread.
And go through all your symptoms, BG levels and weight loss again , take your log book and food diary if you have them. as I think you ought to to be referred to a diabetes clinic.

I think it’s awful that he thinks those levels are no overly concerning.

Please let us know how you get on
