This free downloadable e-book from Diabetes UK’s Enjoy Food section gives a helpful overview of things to bear in mind.

It can be worth remembering that the food group which is likely to raise glucose levels the most are the carbohydrates. While there are obvious sweet things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will want to cut out straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits.

That doesn’t mean you have to avoid all those things entirely, but choosing more slowly absorbed versions, and getting portion sizes right so that your metabolism can cope with meals can be a very powerful strategy.
