Has anyone else experienced wild BG swings whilst taking anitbiotics?
Long story short - toenail removed in April, still not healed in August (!) so had it swabbed, nasty bacteria has colonised, so am now on mega doses of erythromycin.
It's making me feel queasy and hungry at the same time, the minute I eat something I feel very nauseous, then 20 minutes later I'm starving again.
Blood sugar is swinging from 6ish to 20. I'm trying to eat little and often and steer clear of high carb junk food, but I'm generally feeling very peculiar with the obligatory upset tummy, stomach pains/hungry/queasy and sleepiness due to high BG.

It's the infection causing the BG swings. Hope your toe heals soon.

How horrible for you. Hope the infection clears up soon. I'm guessing it's the infection causing Wild BG swings, I'm not sure if antibiotics will do this, others here will know. I'm thinking it may be a good idea to have a daily live yogurt or Yakult to try and replace the friendly ones, I've been advised to do this when I was on strong anti biotics. I hope the tummy upset isn't too bad , if it does it then contact DR quickly.
How often are they checking your toe.

I agree with Sue, it's the infection causing the BG swings, and it's the erythromycin making you feel queasy. Try not to take it on an empty stomach. I don't like taking it, but the GP will have given you that because the bugs causing the infection are sensitive to it. Stick with it.

Fingers crossed, I hope it does the trick.

Never taken Erythromycin since been Diabetic, but when I have had it in the past it has made me feel awful!

Yeah, this has been going on for months. The toe is described as 'critically colonised' rather than infected, as it looks reasonably OK other than the fact that it has not healed. I was fine before taking the antibiotics, but then it could be that I'm only noticing the high BG symptoms because of the other side effects. I know how rough antibiotics are, but I'm on a double dose so it's worse than usual!

The infection will cause the BG highs. Antibiotics affect my appetite too so have to be very careful what I eat. As you are feeling so sickley speak to your doctor or the pharmacist and see what they advise. I have had an infection whee I had toes taken away and some not very nice side effects so do understand how grotty you feel.

I hope you are better soon and the infection clears up quickly

Very rare that I take antibiotics but I'd agree with the others, it's more likely that it's the infection...... To help with all the symptoms I'd suggest hydration; drink plenty of water, just plain, natural tap water.
