Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Having been in my job for a year, I found out last week that a colleague also has Type 1... he only just found out that I did too. Part of me is quite chuffed that we've known each other for a year without realising that... reassurance that you don't have it stamped on your forehead! So that makes three of us T1s now at work.

We had a good chat today about exercise as he wondered how I fare when I go running. He's been offered a pump to help with exercise and getting his levels down, and I'm going to lend him my Ragnar Hanas book as he admitted he's never read up on anything about diabetes!

Perhaps we should develop a secret handshake 🙂 I'm always amazed to hear of people who haven't read up on diabetes after diagnosis - I read a book a day for a fortnight after I was diagnosed! I only found out when I was diagnosed that a guy I had worked alongside for seven years and a good friend had been Type 1 for 15 years!

yep, I'm all for the secret handshake!! I absolutely love having found a guy at work who's T1 - the amount of times we coach each other through problems and looking for trends etc, and speaking to him was one of the main reasons I broke the bad habits of forgetting to test...as we spoke to each other about it so neither of us could forget (it's amazing how hard it is to remember to do it when you've been used to not testing for so long!).

There is a guy in the office across the hall, but we have not discussed our conditions, but we dont really talk much as we are so busy..........😉

When you say he hasn't read anything about diabetes does that mean education in general on it, if so, how has he been offered a pump....................not fair.................:(

But if its being offered, grab it with two hands...........

He has done a DAFNE type course but can't get his A1c down as his BG goes up during exercise - similar problems to what Imtrying has had recently. So yes, he has had education, just not read any books about it off his own back. So I've passed him mine for perusal!

It is good to know help is not 2 far away ! There was 3 of us in my class at school all T1s. A long time ago now !

Must be nice to know theres someone else at work who understands what its like. Plus safety in numbers if your employer isnt great in dealing with it!
