Type 2
Hi all,

I'm a recently diagnosed Type 2, and pretty bewildered with slightly conflicting dietary advice - although it may well be that I am misinterpreting the info, which would not surprise me!
Well despite all that I have managed to lose 9.5 pounds, so perhaps I am getting at least some of it right - time will tell huh?

hello Codger and welcome! Great weight loss - what changes have you made to achieve it?

I downloaded/printed off menus from this website, and now make most of my meals from scratch, have still yet to decide on pasta meals, cannot seem to come up with one that I personally like.

Well - normal pasta sauces eg Bolognese or Carbonara are mainly protein and not a lot of carbs, so it's more adjusting the amount of pasta you have with the sauce that requires the attention. What did you have with your pasta before diagnosis?

I cook, cool, freeze, reheat wholewheat pasta and rice (basmati or brown), it does something to the starch that affects the way we absorb it. I just batch cook it, portion and freeze in the ziplock type sandwich bags. If you flatten them out and stack, they take up very little room and you’re not tempted to overindulge either.

I don't eat any grain, because it has such drastic effects on my BG levels that I could never get any sort of control.
There is no difference to my reaction to the starches if it is frozen and reheated, so do be careful not to act on other people's experience where high carb foods are concerned.

Tbh I’ve been doing the freeze and reheat thing for as long as it’s been known, so I’ve no idea if it makes a difference. I do know that when I had a small chunk of baguette the other night it did terrible things to me. Spent the night peeing and drinking, and I woke up with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth I was so dry.

I seem to be ok with a small amount of wholewheat pasta, basmati rice is better, oats are ok too. White bread etc = bad news.
