Another newby says hi

Hello everyone
My name is Anita , i have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (5 weeks ago).
Altho i was aware of diabetes with being in the caring world for some years i experienced tiredness & was very thirsty for a few days, so i took it upon myself to get some diastix from the chemist & tested my own urine, it shot up to 2% ....omg was my 1st reaction😱 I rang to see gp, was sent for a fasting blood test at local hospital next day, few days later my results came back as i expected yes possitive. I was in shock too altho i knew what the results would be crazy i know but it happened. I am lucky enough to be diet controled only.
I too am finding things hard but have kept my blood glucose levels down between 4.1 - 9.2 instead of 19.1 but have experenced panic attacks. will talk more about this on the general board

Hi Anita and welcome.

Can I ask you what your fasting blood test result was?

I too am only newly diagnosed. My fasting result was 8.4. I have been given Metformin but it did not agree with me! I have now been given Gliclazide, but I am not taking it as I need to lose weight and this med is known to make you gain weight....or making losing weight even more difficult!

I'm just interested as you are on Diet controlled only.

Sorry but i thought as im new too i'd tell you mine. My fasting test was 9.5 and i am diet only.. strange how people are treated differently

Sorry my doc didn't tell me what it was, i was in shock & trying to take it all in, i must try to remember & ask when i see her next.

Sweetsatin, try to remember to get both your initial fasting levels and your HbA1c. I found it helpful to have that baseline when things have got a bit tough so I could see how far I've come. My GP shows me the graph on his computer screen too which reminds me what I've achieved with a little bit of help from those pills
 
Hi Anita.....I'm a Vectonian myself, born in West Cowes. Welcome to the board, I am newly diagnosed, and still coming to terms with it.
