Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all. Another Newly diagnosed Type 1 here 31 yrs young. Diagnosed with G.A.D, general anxiety disorder at 19 so interested on information on how this can impact the (mainly highs) and lows.

Welcome to the forum @Samuel Bourne .

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but pleased that you have found this forum, and look forward to hearing more from you. There is plenty of help available, and no questions are considered silly on here. Just ask.

Can you tell us a bit about how you are managing your Diabetes.
How were you diagnosed?
Which insulin’s are you using?

Stress can certainly have an impact on BG levels but it sends some people’s up and that of others down.
You are in the very early stages of managing T1, and the specialist team will often work with you to bring you BG levels down gradually. Keep in touch with them and use the support that they offer. That is what they are there for.

Keep in touch.

Welcome to the forum Samuel.

Hello and welcome. Sorry you have been diagnosed as type 1 and at a fairly young age. I’m type 2, diagnosed in January at 38 years old. I don’t see many younger people (although I am hardly young now) arriving here. I don’t see many younger people at the diabetes centre either. In fact apart from a pregnant woman I have only seen one young man at the clinic.

It’s quite a daunting thing to be faced with this diabetes mark isn’t it? Especially at a fairly young age, realising that this is your life now. However there is plenty of help and support here so you’re in the right place.

How are you coping so far? Must be difficult with your GAD. My advice is to just keep talking. We are all here to support you.

Thanks for your response. Diagnosed after collapsing and spending time in hospital on drips. Lantus for my bosul?and novo rapid (real name?) for Basel.

Like you said early days and extra tricky separating symptoms of hypers from G.A.D . Between 8-12 BG tests daily. Not sure if that’s enough or too many?

Hello,

Thank you for your response and thank you in advance for your support.

It hasn’t quite sunk in yet and I’m still getting used to a lot more micro managing of where I’m going to be and when, where the nearest toilet is, where I can test and inject, who’s going to take the brunt of my mood when/if my BG spikes and how lots of yet unknown variables will impact them.

For life yes, but only a day at a time.
