I was diagnosed T2 on Monday after a random blood test, was a shock as I had no symptoms despite an HBA1c of 117. I have started Metformin and Pioglitazone and been advised to follow a healthy diet and to not get a glucometer. I have read the letter that you refer newbies to and testing to see what you are most sensitive to makes sense. I worry about everything that I am eating and can't see how I can take control without monitoring it myself. Or am I just panicking because it is all new?

Hi Ace, welcome to the forum.....

Absolutely, many of the members of this forum advocate testing despite the opinion of the medical profession that we will not be able to interpret the results😱 For self-funded the SD Codefree from Amazon is a great choice.

As for what to eat, again, ignoring the medical profession I cut (or reduce) carb sources such as Bread, Rice, Pasta, Cereals & starchy vegetables such as potatoes; instead replacing them with green leafy vegetables. For example, the other day I had chicken curry on a bed of saute'd cabbage.

Welcome Ace from a fellow T2. Yes you are panicking. Do get a meter and self test. Don't put up with any nonsense from medical people.
Take control.

Thanks for your replies. I am much calmer today. I have ordered a meter which will be with me on Tuesday. I think I will feel much more in control once I can get an idea of the direction I am heading in. I keep forgetting it is only 5 days since diagnosis.
