Hi, my name is Amanda, my 7 year old son has just been diagnosed with diabetes type 1, 3 weeks ago. He is on Mixtard 30 twice a day and was coping brilliant at first, doing all injections himself since hospital but now is refusing and at times we need to pin him down and inject for him which is heartbreaking!! It would be good to speak to anyone with similar experience and offer advice, thankyou. I don't know if i've posted this in the correct place or not? 🙂

Hello Amanda and welcome

My son was diagnosed with type 1 when he was ten (two years ago now). He started on two injections a day then changed to multiple daily injections and is now on a pump.

I hope you will find lots of advice and support on this forum. Everyone is very freindly and supportive of each other. There are many of us parents on here too.

Feel free to ask anything you want and someone will be able to help you.

Also, please feel free to pm me anytime if you want to ask anything.

Mand 🙂

Hi, daughter diagnosed June 09 aged 3 (week after her 3rd birthday). Daughter on novrapid and Lantus which is a minimum of 4 injections a day but sometimes need to correct and give an extra one. She used to struggle with injections and I also asked for advice in a previous thread. I had lots of good advice given by the site and we tried quite a few of them. We find now that we still have to inject her because of her age but we use a little soothing pack or ice pack prior to this and talk to her or let her watch TV why we do this. It takes her mind off it and seems to work. Good luck and if we can help in anyway give us a shout

keep smiling

Hi Jamie's mum, aww poor you, it must be so distressing for you. I hope that chatting with other parents of young children on here will help to relieve some of the tension for you.

xx
