Hi everyone,
I am new to the forums, though sadly not new to diabetes - my 12 year old son was diagnosed type 1 at the age of 4. We have no other family members with type 1, but I have other autoimmune conditions including underactive thyroid, and my Mum has type 2 diabetes, so I've picked up a fair bit of knowledge along the way. Always open to learn more though, especially anything that makes living with type 1 that little bit easier!
My son started off on mixed insulins, then went on to MDI with an indwelling catheter, and has been using a pump since 2008. We were very poorly supported by his first clinic team and most of my knowledge was self taught. The final straw came when he developed persistent microalbuminuria despite good diabetes control, and his clinic team did nothing to investigate. We have moved hospitals for better care!
