Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi Guys,

Great site, lots of interesting stories and information.

I was diagnosed with type 1 last week (although they were still debating wether I am 1 or 2 when i was discharged from hospital), still a bit of a shock but I have got great support at home. My doses at the moment seem quite light compared to some on here.

Anyway, time for last injection of the day.

Lee

Welcome to the forum.:D

Hi Lee, welcome to the forum 🙂 How did you come to be diagnosed? It's often not clear cut when you are diagnosed as an adult as symptoms can be similar, although there are tests they can do to pin things down. What insulin are you on and how are you finding it? Any diabetes in your family?

Ask anything you're not sure about and we'll try our best to help out! 🙂

welcome from me too ...you've found a good place here so remember ask any questions nothing is regarded silly here 🙂

Hi Lee!!

Life doesn't stop LOL - Northie was diagnosed as an adult, so was I.

We're getting as common as muck round here! - welcome to the club!

Thanks for the welcome messages.

In reply to how I got diagnosed, my optician spotted it first, my eyes had dropped by about 2.5 in a short space of time and recommended I go for a check.

After checking some of the other symptoms I noticed that I had a couple of and thought that she might have a case. As it was the double bank holiday i couldn't get to the docs for a few days then after a couple of blood tests they sent me to hospital for further tests.

I am currently on 3 doses of Novorapid and one of Lantus whilst awaiting the result of the anti-bodies test. Not much in the way of diabetes in the family though.

hi Lee... welcome to the forum x

Ah, good news that your optician spotted it and you were able to get diagnosed before the more serious stuff happened - I was oblivious until I suddenly went into rapid decline and ended up in hospital for a week (also at a bank holiday!) 😱 No diabetes known on my family, although my dad suffers from psoriasis which is also auto-immune, so a possible link there. I was also started on lantus and novorapid - good that you have been started on this 'basal/bolus' regime as it is the most flexible way to manage your diabetes short of having an insulin pump 🙂

Damn those auto-immune thing, my Dad has thyroid problems, my mum has rhumatoid (hopeless at spelling) and sister has some form of lupus. So I guess this maybe my version of it, my brother seems quite normal (as brothers go anyway)

Hope you find the site as useful as I'm hoping too. :D
