Hi All,
I was diagnosed T2 in May whilst visiting family in Canada. I seem to be managing my blood sugar levels OK generally with the odd mistake / learning event. I am on Metformin and Epagliflozin plus apixaban, bisoprolol, atorvastatin, ramipril. My two main concerns are urinary infections because of empagliflozin and muscle wastage with the metformin. I did have quite a bit of sickness at first but that has passed now although always windy!
I am however slowly but surely losing weight and wonder if a protien supplement would help? I do a lot of sport and am 66.
Any thoughts?
Thanks Tony

Hi ,Tony, apart from Epagliflozin, we have Identical meds! can't advise you as I am not medically trained, just learning like most folk, hope you get the answers soon, I must admit I've not heard of muscle wastage with the Metformin

Hi Tony, I have never been on Metformin, but have been in 2 diabetes forums for about 3 yrs and I have never heard of Metformin being associated with muscle wasting.
I used to be on the last 3 medications you list, but stopped taking them since they were no longer needed after I started a Low Carb way of eating. My lipid ratios improved dramatically, I never had high blood Pressure in the first place so was only prescribed ramipril and bisoprolol because of being a standard package of 'Cardio vascular' medication.
I'm sure you are aware that Atorvastatin, like many other Statins and many steroids, is associated with raised Blood Glucose. So many diabetics avoid it where possible.

Hi Tony, welcome to the forum.

Are you deliberately losing weight due to the changes you've made or is it just something you've noticed recently?

Due to the varying medications and therefore conditions you're dealing with, it would be best to speak with your GP and mention the weight loss if it's not something you've caused.

Empagliflozin is intended to help you lose weight, so if you’re now underweight you need to speak to your doctor
