Have a look at the learning zone (the orange tab at the top) as there is a lot of information which you can look through at your own pace and that might put you in a good position to ask some relevant questions when you see your nurse. One important thing to ask is what your HbA1C is as that will give an indication of how much you need to do to get your levels down. It will be a number probably above 48mmol/mol as that would be the levels that led to your diagnosis. It is a measure of the average blood glucose level over a 3 month period.Thankyou yes have been reading lots of comments etc…. As I said in other reply have no idea ref. HbAIc is …. The medication you have been given is a slow release form of metformin which helps the body use the insulin you are producing more effectively but you still need to make dietary changes for it to have much impact.
Many people find that home testing is critical in enabling them to make good food choices and puts them in control of their diabetes though not advocated by most G Ps or diabetic nurses which in my mind is very shortsighted but it seems they would rather push people onto the medication route (sorry my hobby horse).
I should make a list of questions you have when you have your appointment as it is easy to forget something you meant to ask.
Do let us know how you get on when you see them.Thankyou will have a list of questions ready for her … she won’t know what’s hit her haha … basically I feel I was told I had Diabeties and to come back in six months and see how things were !!!
