Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
A somewhat belated hello from me, as I have already posted on the General Messageboard forum. I have been browsing this messageboard for a couple of months, but decided to register today.

My name is Ian, I am 45 years old and live in Wrexham, North Wales. I was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic last March. Although devastated at the time, in a strange sort of way it has been a good thing for me because it has given me the kick up the backside that I needed to get back into shape and despite being diabetic I am now back to doing all the outdoor sports that I used to enjoy.

Ian 🙂

Hi Ian, and welcome!

I know what you mean about the 'kick up the backside'. I was descending into heavy drinking prior to diagnosis (partly due to thirst, believe it or not!), but since diagnosis I've hardly drunk a drop, nor have I wanted to. I'm probably in better shape now than I was 20 years ago and for the first time in my life I'm being regularly monitored for all sorts of things - only ever visited the doctors in the past with broken limbs!

Hi there - nice to see another North Wales member. Am from Llansannan, near Abergele myself and been struggling as a Type 2 for a couple of years

thats me

Hi Ian
that sounds exactly like myself i never was one for sports as such but since being diagnosed as type2 I now go to the gym 5 or 6 times a week go for a run now and then during the summer and feel a lot fitter and healthier all round I some times think it was the best thing to happen to me strange as it sounds I as sure you understand what i mean.
Just try not to get to depressed about living in Wale Ian hopefully you will soon find the light at the end of the tunnel and escape through it to civilisation (ha ha )
