Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi New to this site and diabetes forums even though I have been type 1 for 33 years now Started having major probs in 2004 which resulted in loosing vision in both eyes although operations restored most of sight but registered as partially sighted probs with high bp - kidneys giving up the ghost 'clickie fingers' (whats that all about) and now after a spectacular back flip down the stairs ( I forgot to perfect the landing) I am nursing a broken hip and im only 56 - I can say only 56 because after a week in hospital thats all the docs kept saying to me - 'only 56 your far too young to have broken your hip' ! So Im stuck on crutches bored to distraction and keep getting letters off my favourite dress shops telling me to 'get well soon' as their profits are going down fast ! If you have got time say 'hello' 🙂

Hi lynnielou. Welcome 🙂

I've done about 33 years too, but I'm still chugging along with all my bits intact.:D

I also did a back flip down the stairs a few years ago when I spasmed during a hypo. Went straight through the hall table but got away with bruises and cuts on my shoulder. 🙄

Hope to see you around the forum.

Rob

Welcome to the Forum Lynnielou - I would suggest that you try out the virtual tropical island but it appears to have been abandoned lately.

You have certainly had a rough time over the years, I guess you will be kicking your heals (bad analogy) for a while till your hips have healed. Do you have any hobbies that you could fall back on to pass the time ? Of course you are welcome on here - some days are quieter than others.

Have a good look around and ask as many questions as you need to.

Hi Lynnielou, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about the problems you have been having :( I know the boredom/crutches thing as I broke my femur a few years back - whilst I was running a marathon! I got told that that only happens to post-menopausal women with osteoporosis and I was a 45 year old man at the time!

Hope you find lots to interest you here. We have lots of people that have been diagnosed quite a few years, so I've no doubt you will have a lot of shared experiences from the 'old days' 😉 and not all the talk is about diabetes - we do try and have a bit of fun too!

Hope you find the place friendly and supportive, I will look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Are you sure you weren't practicing for the Olympics ?:D

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Are you sure you weren't practicing for the Olympics ?:D

I felt like I'd been thrown by a judo champ, and lost, so I don't think I'd win any medals ! 😱 :D

Welcome to the forum Lynnielou! x

Welcome to the forum Lynnielou. I have clicky fingers too. My index ones get stuck and I have to move them with my other hand. Don't know if it's connected to D though or just old age creeping on lol.

Welocome to the forum :D

Hi Linnielou and welcome to the forum. Everyone is really friendly here and there's usually someone around to chat to, share stories or give advice. I'm sorry to hear you're having such a bad time of things at the moment, but you've come to a nice place to make friends.

I was told by my consultant last week that I'm still a young woman at 53. He's promised to put it in writing so I can show the kids! Compare that to me being called a geriatric mum when I had my 3rd baby at the ripe old age of 32!

Take care and I look forward to getting to know you better. XXXXX

Hi LL welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your troubles, but good to have you here.

KateR - yes I get fingers that get stuck/locked sometimes too. Especially at night. I hadn't thought that it might be D related. How interesting!

A big Diabetic welcome from me lynnielou,

sorry to hear about your eyes, would be interested to hear some of your stories. While your nursing your broken hip you could stick the kettle on and have a rummage round here. Even after your long sentence with diabetes you will still find surprises on here..........:D

Hi Everyone Thanks for all your lovely messages you really are a nice lot !
Your right about always learning something new about diabetes Im booked on a Daphne course in a few months - which I have heard and read good reports about so I shall look forward to hopping off to that (literally) !
