Hi everyone,

I'm K, I in Edinburgh and stumbled across the site recently. I've had Type 1 for 20 years now (I'm 30), and use an insulin pump along with a low-carb diet to manage my 'betes.

So *hello* to all and look forward to chatting 🙂

Hi K, Welcome to the forum. I am also in Edinburgh and also have a pump. Have you had yours long? I would be interested to here how you are getting on, did you have a stupidly long wait for your pump too?

Welcome from me................

Another fellow Scot, all be it Glesga..........😉

Hello fellow Scots!

Rachel - I had an 'interesting' wait for a pump. The Edinburgh lot referred me for a pump, then I decided to move to London and saw a pump specialist at a hospital down there. In the time it took me from getting the Edinburgh pump referral to seeing this London based consultant (about a year) I managed to get my hba1c down to 6% by following a very low-carb diet. So when I saw this new chap he didn't think I required the pump and told me to keep doing what I was doing. However, I then decided to move back to Edinburgh (missed it too much) and on the day I moved back (!) I got a called from the Western General saying they had secured me funding for a pump (they didn't realise I'd been away!).

They were a bit unsure about giving it to me as my control was so good without it but I pestered them and I'm so glad that I did. Really live-changing bit of kit...

Soooo, to cut a long story (sorry about that) short, my wait was just over a year for my pump. I've had it for almost 3 years now (not the same one though - I seem to break them a lot (honestly not my fault!) - think Medtronic have replayed it 6 times now).

Hi ScottyK, welcome to the forum 🙂 I hope you find using the forum enjoyable and useful, I am sure people will be interested in hearing of your experiences over the years. We have lots of pumpers, some new to it and some with long experience.

Welcome to the forums ScottyK 🙂

Scotty hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi k. Welcome 🙂

Good to hear your pump story. Shows there are ways round the system even with a low HbA1c.

Rob

Another welcome!

Looking forward to seeing you posting around and about.
