Another hypo, paramedics called, these are really taken it out of me, had flu and pneumonia injections, may have made BG to drop, but some good information given.
At this moment I feeling shaky and not well at all, wish we are to sort this out

Oh noooo. How are you now

Spoken to DN and dropped insulin, until appointment next week, even thou BG will rise, better that than having hypos, trying to see if cancellation to get me in quickly, certainly not a happy bunny at the moment, thinking of changing insulin, as there are options she was telling me.Hopefully we'll get it right.

What insulin’s are you on .
I wouldn’t worry too much about BG rising atm. I hope you can get an earlier appointment and perhaps a referral to a hospital clinic

I'm on humlin mix 25, spoke to DN on phone lowered insulin, until my appointment, BG is rising but at the moment won't worry to much, got my GP tomorrow and will have a chat, with her too.

I am wondering if you would be better off with a Basal and bolus regime rather than a mixed insulin

May I ask what's the difference, I've read that people are on it on the forum, but myself know very little, there's a lot to ask my DN, as I've lost a lot of confidence at the moment, if its not way, my GL are so high, high 20s its the other much to low. Between 2 and 4

Oh no this sounds eventful. Hope you feel better soon and you will have less hypos.

Just spoken to DN very regular these hypos, just had another, DN told me to take 5 gluco tabs and a drink of lucoazade, at my Witt's end.

Basal and bolus are two separate insulins (rather than mixed insulin) - you inject the basal (slow-acting insulin) once or twice a day and it gives you a background insulin which deals with the glucose released by your own body; then you inject the bolus (fast-acting insulin) whenever you eat a meal with carbohydrates in it and that deals with the carbs in your food. Basal-bolus (also known as multiple daily injections or MDI) means more inections, but it is much more flexible than mixed insulin, because you can eat what you like when you like, so you are injecting according to what you eat rather than having to eat according to what you've injected.

Spoke to my DN at the surgery, and she said all she can do is sympathise, and don't know what to say, lower the insulin till I see the DC, where she thinks the insulin will be changed, and asked if I had anyone at home with me, hmmm, yes a disabled husband with limited speech, and can't do anything for himself. Little rant over, on a serious note, am I able to ask my GP, if I could be referred to the hospitals DC, I'm sure everyone has my well being at heart, but the wheels go round so slowly. 2 hypos today, 1 really bad one yesterday, last week and the week before.
I'm so sorry if I sound a moaner, which to be fair I am, I do apologise.

No you are not moaning and if you were , you have every right to ! You’re crying out for help

Yes you can ask for a referral, tbh if I were in your situation I would be demanding it , but I suggest you start reasonably gently then ramp up if needed. Imo you really do need to see a DSN (Diabetes specialist nurse) at the hospital.

Just spoken to DN very regular these hypos, just had another, DN told me to take 5 gluco tabs and a drink of lucoazade, at my Witt's end.
What a (i would get banned if I said what I wanted to say ) I bet you said a few extremely choice words once you left that DN. it’s all fine and dandy being sympathetic but what about some real help. Apologies for the rant .

I see Juliet has already explained MDI (Basal bolus ) Thanks @TheClockworkDodo .
It does mean more injections but it is very flexible, you don’t have to eat if you don’t want to.
It is easy to adjust insulin if you’re having to many hypo’s or bad hypo’s

I agree with Lin, it sounds like you need a referral to a hospital Diabetes Specialist Nurse, @Viviennes - I'd definitely ask your GP for one if I were you, and ask them to say it's urgent, because you need to see a specialist about dealing with these severe hypos and ideally getting your insulin changed asap.

Having said that, going onto MDI wouldn't necessarily mean you didn't have hypos - I'm on MDI and I have loads, but I've never been hospitalised with one or even had paramedics called out. I manage them myself quite easily and I am able to change my insulin doses easily whenever I need to.

Really sorry that you are experiencing this @Viviennes

Have you been advised to keep to regular meal and snack times and amounts to match the activity of the premixed insulin you are taking?

When I was on mixed insulin I was given a carb count for each meal and snack that I needed to take at regular (predefined) intervals. It was a much, much less flexible system than basal:bolus I found. I was only on it for a year or so.
