What a palava your already stressed enough the High lipids levels mean that you have a high amount of cholesterol and possibly triglycerides (bad fatty acid) in your blood......hope the appointment goes ok Tez

Thanks Steff. I really don't want to go on statins as they aren't nice so I have been told.

Theres mixed opinions on them Tez, im on them well i was on one did not get on with it and im now on another which im getting on great with, IF you do go down the path of statins theres plenty of us on them so where we can we can help you along x

Most people have no problems with them Tez. My main issue with them was that I didn't really need them as my cholesterol was so low, but had it been on the high side I would have less of an issue. It might not happen anyway, the person who gave you the results may not have really known what he/she was talking about!

Tez i didnt get on with two statins, finally, like steff, Im on a low does of atorvastatin and its seems ok ...

Thanks for all the support everybody. What would I do without you all?

Jennywren was right. 7.9%

I saw a different doctor - young, keen and happy I am clued up.

Well, I'm now the proud owner of boxes of Sitagiptin and Simvastatin.

I asked about Byetta and he said it's the third treatment. The first is Metformin, 2nd is Gliplezides, Byetta is the third and Insulin is the fourth.

The Sitagliptin works in a very similar way to Byetta so I got those tablets rather than the ones he normally prescribes.

However, if my HbA1c has not improved in three months and if I was that keen then I would have to go private and pay about ?100 for the pleasure of stabbing myself twice a day.

In the meantime I have to do a food/BG diary. He wants warts and all.

Here goes...

I hope the new meds do the trick Tez, and that they don't come with any side-effects for you 🙂

Hi Tez sounds like you had a good doc today

Hope the new meds do the trick and you dont have too many issues with them

Good luck

I'm not keen on Statins and the other tablets don't cause too much weight gain aparently so I'll give them a whirl.

Hi Tez, Sorry to hear this, especially since you have been trying so hard :( hope the meds work for you. My dad has been on sitagliptin for the last couple of months and it has brought his HbA1c down 1%. Good luck

good luck with new regieme Tez ...bit harsh to say you'd need to go private if the Sitagiptin hasnt worked ...surely you'd be in the next stage and they should next be trying out the bettya...
simvastatin was the first they tried me on ...so if you start any side effects get in contact with GP immediately they may have to alter the dose or try a differnt one x keep posting about your progress

I hope the new pills work for you Tez. I wasn't even offered those and was put straight on Byetta after the Gliclazide did sod all. I was given the choice of Byetta or insulin so I thought I'd give it a go. Sounds like your new young doc will go for the Byetta if the pills don't work. XXXXX

Hopefully those pills work well for you Tez.

Possibly he put you on those rather then the more usual Glic because it isn't likely to cause hypo's.

Are you still on Metformin as well? If you are, you might want to take into account Jenny Ruhl's advice to take the sitagliptin/Januvia at a different time to the Metformin.
