just another quick question, do the hospital inform the DVLA or is it down to the individual to inform them of any assisted hypos?

He legally is the one who should do this. But the fact he has been admitted it will be in his GP notes as well as hospital. So if consultant or GP have to fill in the forms for him there is no getting out of it.
If he doesn't inform DVLA, he is driving with a non valid licence and thus no ins due to no licence.
So he is sunk in all directions. :(

Hi Carol, just catching up with this and wanting to send a bit of moral support from one mum to another. I don't have any experience with doabetic kids but I do have 3 kids in their 20's and one of them is a 21 year old young man who has and does still present me with 'challenging' behaviour from time to time.. The thing is, no matter how old they get you never stop being a mum, so of course you checked on him in the night. You must be frantic with his behaviour right now. I hope this latest episode shakes him up and that he learns from it. You've had a lot of advice here from people who know a lot more than I do. Anyway, sending you my love and best wishes to you and your son. XXXXX

I think it looks more responsible if the individual approaches the DVLA after the event, however, the DVLA set a 3year renewal of the licence which the diabetes team need to check the records and will assess these hypos and his control, if your son went to hospital, it is likely to be in his records.

Glad your son was ok last night and today, maybe its worth showing him these posts to help his realise that there is a lot more at stake than a good night out and the knock on effects of potentially losing his independance.
