Another blood test, less than a week after T2 diagnosis confirmed!?

Hi from a newbie to the club!

Suggestions as to what this one might be for, please.

A little background - I had a repeat Hba1c test last week, after a routine blood test in November came back indicating that I was in the range for T2 diabetes (51).

I received a phone call from a GP on Wednesday morning telling me that I was now confirmed as having T2 diabetes (58). I was asked for permission to give my details to the diabetes nurse at the practice and, after doing so, informed that she only worked Wednesdays and Thursdays and I would not hear from her this week… then the GP couldn’t get off the phone fast enough!

On Friday I received a call from a receptionist at the practice telling me that I needed to make two appointments, the first for a blood test. Being stubborn, I asked why I needed another blood test as it was only a few days since I had one. The receptionist, now very annoyed, wasn’t able to tell me and said she’d check with the nurse. I expect that I may receive a call tomorrow and want to be prepared to challenge if necessary!

Stubborn is my middle name

Hi Welcome to the forum
Sometimes there will be 2 HbA1C tests just to confirm the diagnosis but it may that there will be other tests that will be done now as routine like kidney function and full blood count, B12 and a few others once you have a diagnosis.
Do have a look around the forums and at the Learning Zone as you may well have some questions for the nurses appointment.
I hope that you will be given opportunity to get it down with some dietary changes as I assume you were not given medication or were told about the need to reduce carbohydrates having had a diabetes zone test result in November, that has meant your HbA1C has gone up which is not good.

I also had a blood sample for liver function, and gave them a couple of pots of urine (lucky them!) for something to do with my kidneys, possible protein and blood in my urine? All the tests merged together in my mind, and I lost track of what they wanted them for.
Hope your other tests don't turn up anything out of the ordinary.

My tests run into three pages.
Hba1c, cholesterol, liver function, kidney function, thyroid, and about 20 or more other results from the blood screens, plus about 10 urine results.
There is a lot more to diabetes than BG unfortunately.

Thanks for your reply.
I have not received anything but a diagnosis from the GP but have found lots of helpful information in the forum.
The blood test I had in November was a full blood count plus others, hopefully I’ll find out what the new request is for.

To be brutally honest that maybe all you get from the doctor!

I always have to have a blood test before I see the diabetic nurse, and they take 3 vials each time. Then a few days later the great long list of results get posted on my record. I find it very reassuring to know everything they test for is in full working order.

This^^ multiple vials taken every 6 months to check for everything from iron levels to sugars, and this last year (my first) another blood test every 3 months for hba1c liver and kidneys and cholesterol, never had to give a urine sample though.
