A coroner has raised concerns after an 18-year-old anorexia sufferer died just weeks after being discharged from hospital early because she was deemed old enough to make her own decisions.

?Bright and beautiful? Laura Willmott collapsed two weeks after doctors released her from Bristol?s Frenchay Hospital as an ?experiment? to see if she could cope.

At 18 she was deemed old enough to care for herself - and despite her condition doctors refused to overrule her.

The trust had also recently axed funding for a scheme which offered beds those with eating disorders to help them recover.

When she was rushed back with severe malnourishment and dangerously low blood sugar Miss Willmott barely weighed five stone. Just over a month later she was dead.

Her mother Vickie Townsend believes that her daughter was ?doomed? from the moment she turned 18, nine months earlier, when the Child and Mental Health Unit that had been treating her considered she was old enough to make her own decisions.
