... We don't know:D

Sorry, naughty of me! Firstly thanks to those who posted on my other thread to wish K luck - hopefully it has worked and blood tests will not turn up anything unexpected. She had her feet 'tickled' and prenounced fine - but we knew that really (who can resist tickling a Childs barefoot on a daily basis?😉) As usual BP machine came up with all sorts of silly numbers to start with (192 over summat? Thankfully nurse had sense to realise it was machine not K causing that number
But took DSN about 40 mins to do blood test - usually the other nurse does it (from back of hand/wrist with some trouble) but she wasn't there (cut backs?).Ended up with her hand in bowl hot water for 20 mins to get anything. We were there for 2 hours all together. During which time K had a 2.8 hypo and was chattering away all sorts of rubbish, bless.

Got a new meter( well two) GlucoMenLX plus - it does keytones too so DSN was willing to prescribe strips - K liked it because the display is bigger and of
course strips are easier because they are in a tub not in foil wrappers like her Optium Xceed. Fingers crossed we wont have trouble changing script!Does anyone else use this meter?

Week or so to get all results, so there will be a part three to this post when we get them. Thanks for all your good wishes xx

Glad to hear that overall it was a good appointment but sorry to hear about the problems with getting blood

Dad has the same meter although he doesn't use the keytone strips. He had the previous one but recently they sent him the new one. I like the eject strip button and the meal/exercise markers. It's much easier to handle than the previous one go to the website and register as I think K would like one of the coloured covers.

I was given one of those meters by a member here for the blood ketone usage. I've used the strips in the box and must get found to asking for some more on script (though I have 2 pots of urine ones I'm using in the meantime)

What a palava for K, poor thing.

Re meters, we have the optium xceed for ketone testing, but for BG testing have the Accu-chek mobile - it's brilliant, if a little bulky. Blood test 'strips' are a cassette inside, you just slide the bottom open, 'strip' is there. Lancet thingy attached to side, so prick finger, open bottom, dab blood on (oops, forgot to say switch on first lol) and reading in seconds. Far less faffing about with test strips, great when hypo and shaky. Only negative as I said is the lack of ketone testing and maybe the size a bit - size of mobile phone with finger pricker stuck on side.

We had no problems getting prescription changed for new tackle though. Tell your GP the hospital said you were to have this new one!

Oh you meany!!!
I'm glad everything went well (apart from taking blood and hypo)
We have a glucomenLX, but Carol only uses it for ketones (strips come foilwrapped)
I registered it online - I wonder if they'll send me a new meter too???(not that I'm too bothered, as we also have an optium exceed, which I hate).

Hi Monica

Only found the keytone strips in the box this morning - thought we didnt have any but they only included 2 in a little cardboard wallet thingy - had assumed it was just an advert🙄

You might get a new meter - clinic gave us two AND fancy coloured skins of K's choice - think she got lucky for once and rep had just delivered some samples! K was having a look at samples whilst we waited and liked the GlucoMenLX because of the bigger/clearer display. Other features (downloading results etc) didn't really influence us. Def not the lovely pink cover😉

Does use much less blood though, K is still using her old lancet thingy but she turned it down a notch, so bonus there!

Why do you hate Optium Xceed Monica? I'm quite fond of it,*sigh*

MM Xx

Edit

Sorry Tina - meant to add - thanks for advice about that meter - we have looked at it but K's clinic only seem to want to let her have meters that do Ketones as well. Don't know if display any larger any way which (with K's poor vision) was main reason for change.

.

I hate the Xceed simply because on the rare times I wanted to use it, it didn't work properly. And it's small and fiddly. So when you're stressed already......😱

I don't think it requires less blood for the ketones though. It might require less for the glucose strips, but as Caz doesn't use them, I wouldn't know.

Just noticed, Carol has a pink cover too. It came with the monitor 🙂
