I've received a text addressed to PAN ( my initials) never been addressed like that before. It doesn't look like a scam.
My main problem is I feel hung out to dry by my surgery who tested me for diabetes in 2014 reading 40 didn't tell me and never tested again despite me giving a blood sample each year as I have high blood pressure.
I was diagnosed after I asked for a test on 26 June with a follow up 4 weeks later.
Is it usual to have an annual review within 4 months of diagnosis?
I have tried several times without success to contact the DN about course groups which I don't recall her asking me specifically about.
I saw an hcp when given a statin at the end of September. He offered me an HBA1C although previous one has only been amonth before. He said he'd phone me but didn't.
I've had a cold for more than 6 weeks, weekly diarrohea though for the first time poo on Sunday was soft but not diarrhea and my blood sugar has climbed up a bit. Highest 13. Today it was 6.1 when I woke up.
I'm on steroid eye drops and finished oral steroids last week.
Part of me feels I'm too stressed and upset to go. Part of me thinks I could ask some questions.
I am due to see a nurse next week to check my blood pressure and blood glucose at request of the consultant. It maybe they havent noticed I have made an appointment.
Despite my main symptom when I asked for diabetes test was numb toes I haven't had a foot check.
I suspect I'm still feeling angry/ upset with the surgery.
What can I expect and is there something to be said to postpone until ive finished my steroid eye drops and seen the consultant?

I got a letter a few weeks ago from eye screening and cancelled it. They will contact me in April. I am currently being treated by the hospital.

I think you're right to question if this is a legitimate appointment, especially as it has come over by text, it uses your initials (not your full name) and you've never received an appointment in this way before. Does it contain any links? If so, *don't* click on them. I'm not quite following who the text is from (GP or hospital) but it's worth calling them to double check this is a genuine appointment.

Sorry to learn you've been left to it since diagnosis with minimal support. Given you were diagnosed in June, it's usual that you're not put onto a education course right away. This does happen 6-12 months later usually. However, foot checks and eye checks appointments should start to come through now. Did you cancel the eye screening or did they? April is almost a year on from diagnosis, to me that sounds too far down the line but it'll be good to hear from others' experiences in regards to this.

@saffron15 I can't answer most of your question's and I guess surgery's, will vary on the protocols they adopt, but when I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was asked to come back in 3 months for another blood test to confirm diagnoses which I think is pretty much standard when first diagnosed.

I guess I was borderline at 51hba1c so not put on any medication

I would check with your doctors surgery. I normally get an annual review about this time of year to check weight, BP, cholesterol, full blood count and liver/kidney function. They also did a few diabetes checks, feet and HbA1c. I am still getting 8 to 12 week checks by the diabetes nurse as my HbA1c was so high at diagnosis. I think they will integrate everything into my normal annual review next year if there are no problems.
Chase up your foot check with your nurse if it's not done at the appointment.
My surgery are quite proactive, texting me to make appointments. It's from a trusted number on my phone so I know it's not a scan.
Good luck with appointment @saffron15

My surgery's usual communication channel is text messages.
But it is usually addressed to "Miss Helli"

If it was me, I would call the surgery to check whether it is genuine or not and, if it is, take up the appointment and use it as a chance to ask questions. I want to know my results and learn how to minimise my chance of complications,

Our surgery automates the invites to book an appointment with our birthdays. So that might be why it has come up earlier than you thought it would.

40 is a normal reading, no diabetes or prediabetes so they had nothing to telll you then.

Yes it’s normally 3/4 months later then one year later if all ok
He offered me an HBA1C although previous one has only been amonth before.
if you’d only recently been diagnosed then it would have shown if things we’re going in the right direction.

Interesting...I had a surprise HbA1c test in May. Reading was 43. I was being seen about something else. Later told I had such a test 4 years ago which was alright. Next test is not for approx a year.

For over 30 years I have been on strong meds (that can have side effects)for amongst other things kidney disease and autoimmune issues. Ocassional gout. After 30 years that seems to be less of a concern.

They are reducing the tablets after all this time.

A mix up with the surgery saw my kidney specialist step in approx 8 weeks ago and he asked for every blood test possible. Including another HbA1c. So far I have heard nothing which I hope is a good sign.

Because of the first test in May. I am now being seen by a podiatrist every four months.

For the first time in 30 years with mobility issues I will be seeing a physiotherapist. A bit late now I woukd suggest but they may be making me some shoes to help with my walking.

Oh and within 8 weeks of the first HbA1c test in May I lost 4 stones in weight even though I never looked overweight. And was never told I was all the time I have had regular appointments at the hospital for my kidney issues.

I assume losing the weight will be an advantage to hopefully avoiding becoming diabetic.

I wish you well sorting out your problems.

Thank you all. I suspect text isn't a scam. The surgery does send texts. Last Saturday I received 4 texts within seconds of each other to confirm I had my jabs at 9.48 that morning. I am feeling a bit disgruntled and they've never addressed me as PAN.
@Lucyr I had an hba1c end of June 69 then end of July 64. Put on metformin mid August. Put on SGLT2 first week of September. I had an hba1c on 5 September 58 so was surprised when offered one at my appointment 30 September as it was less than a month since last one. Reception told me it was 51 but didn't understand the other comments by the testers.
I'm feeling a bit messed up so am going to ignore it. I have an appointment at end of November which I made to have my blood pressure and BG checked at request of consultant. My blood pressure was 161 at the hospital. It's usually 120 at the surgery. Hopefully now I've finished the steroids calm will descend. If I get another text I will respond as the obvious thing would then be to cancel my appointment for blood pressure and bg check. At least the steroid eye drops go down to 6 x a day tomorrow. I'd forgotten how awful a uveitis flare can feel.
