A DIABETIC man has been hit with an expensive bill for his medication, despite being entitled to get it for free.

Type 1 Diabetes sufferer Ian Gilbertson, 55, is allowed to pick up the insulin he needs to fight the disease for free as long as he owns an exemption certificate.

However, he says he was never told he required one and is now facing a £124.15 fine after the NHS Business Services Authority (BSA) took on the task of cracking down on patients without the correct documentation.

But Mr Gilbertson, of Hull Road, Wilberfoss, is fighting the charge and refusing to pay the bill.
