How long does it take to get the Levemir (background) sorted, I've only been on this regime 10 days guess I'm just impatient.

Don't know about levemir specifically, but I've been trying to get my lantus background sorted for 8 months. More or less succeeded, but some fine-tuning still to go! Patience is one skill I have learned in dealing with all this...🙂

I'm on Levemir - I was told that I should aim for around 1 unit per hour of the day ie 24 per day. In my case 26 works better for me. It took a little while, as the honeymoon period can mess things up - but I believe I'm pretty well sorted now - 2 years after my diagnosis.

Type 2 on Levemir

I found this some time ago, it might prove usefull to you:

Levemir is a long-acting insulin analogue used as a basal insulin.
Dosage:
In combination with oral antidiabetic agents it is recommended to initiate Levemir treatment with once daily administration at a dose of 10 U or 0.1-0.2 U/kg. The dose of Levemir should be titrated based on individual patients' needs.
Based on study results the following titration guideline is recommended;
Average pre-breakfast SMPG Levemir dose adjustment
> 10.0 mmol/L (180 mg/dL) + 8
9.1-10.0 mmol/L (163-180 mg/dL) + 6
8.1-9.0 mmol/L (145-162 mg/dL) + 4
7.1-8.0 mmol/L (127-144 mg/dL) + 2
6.1-7.0 mmol/L (109-126 mg/dL) + 2
If one SMPG measurement

3.1-4.0 mmol/L (56-72 mg/dL) - 2
< 3.1 mmol/L (< 56 mg/dL) - 4
When Levemir is used as part of a basal-bolus insulin regimen Levemir should be administered once or twice daily depending on patients' needs. Dosage of Levemir should be adjusted individually.
For patients who require twice daily dosing to optimise blood glucose control, the evening dose can be administered in the evening or at bedtime.

I think that as with all things connected with diabetes you will have to be patient. The cause of your low/high sugar readings is complex. If you can get your waking readings below 7 regularly and don't exceed 10 then you should feel pleased with yourself (Christmas is an exception). I thought I had it cracked after 4 months but the readings have gone up again and I've had to increase my dosage to 60 in the morning and 46 in the evening.
