Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all

I've been a type one for three years now, I use Novorapid and Levemir Insulin and my last HBA1C was 7.8 (rubbish), its risen there from 6.4 when I had my first one. Im a bit of a lame diabetic, I go through stages of being really good and looking after myself, then I will relapse and eat rubbish, not test regularly and wotnot. Even after three years I struggle to really get into the habit of it all 😡

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum🙂 I think there are a few people that have gone through periods of not taking sufficient care, it's part of the problem with a long-term condition like this. But hopefully, you can put that behind you and work towards getting those levels under control - let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

not a t1... but join the 'relasping club' who eat crap...but dont really want to.. welcome you are not alone 🙂

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the forum!! Its tough staying motivated 24 hours day! i had a real wobble a few months back where i pretty much did enough to keep myself out of hospital but was really just coasting.

Talking to people on here who understand those feelings did a lot to get me back on track and remember im not the only one going through it with no one to turn to. Im sure that youll find this forum as friendly and supportive as i have.

Viki 🙂

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum!

I went through a pretty bad patch a while ago which lasted for quite a few years where i refused to test etc. Made things a little bit bad i must say and still trying to sort things out! We all have bad days though, where we just want to eat rubbish!

Ask any questions and we'll all do our best to help!

Hi Ian and welcome!

I'm another who can join the relapsing into bad habits club, went through a stage of very bad control, seem to be behaving myself at the moment!

Looking forward to seeing you around on the boards.

Hi Ian,

Welcome! I hope you enjoy the forum and find it supportive. If it makes you feel an ounce or two better, my HbA1c is more scarey than yours! I know with all the will in the world and no matter how hard you try, sometimes you cant win! But we just have to keep on trying hey, this place has really helped me with that 😉

Take care

Lou

welcome aboard Ian, good to see another man amoungst the ranks, we need more!!🙂

Hi Ian, now you've found your way to this forum hopefully the people experiencing the same stuff as you will be able to help you stay on the straight and narrow.

Hope you find the forum useful, and welcome btw!

xx

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the site I hope you find it helpful to you and also YAY another person from essex on the site. 😉 I'm still struggling to get the hang of this diabetes lark myself I've only had it just under 2 years so like you I am reliatevly new to it all.

Emma

Welcome 🙂

As you have already seen lots of people go through these lax stages. I just don't think it's possible to be really tight all the time, sometimes other things take priority and life gets in the way.

I'm in a more relaxed state at the moment, not carb counting but generally estimating my doses, which is helping to stop me getting burnt out.

Hope you find the site helpful

Hi Ian,
Welcome from another type 1er. I have been a rather lame diabetic myself for about a decade! I am trying to tighten my control up now though, and the first step was joining this forum and reading all about how other people deal with it.

I hope you find it helps too.

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the forum. University seems to be challenging my skills for managing type one. Much beer, food and all that is associated with being a student!
